Help Me Find a Job!

"How do I look for a job?"

JobsCity.NET offers a lot of ways to search for work on-line.

JOB SEARCH is for those who know exactly what kind of job they are looking for. Type in keywords that describe your job preferences, it may be the name of the company, location, or type of industry. Filling up the forms, such as, City, Education, Title, Industry, Experience, Salary, etc., will derive more specific results. It might be advisable to start with a broad search and if there are too many matching results, go back and narrow your search with more criteria.

BROWSE JOB is an easy to use point-and-click style job search. It's so easy we don't even have to tell you how to do it.

COMPANY PROFILE gives you two (2) options to search, Country search and Company search. Company search is a faster way to search if you already have a company name in mind. But for the first option, select a country from which to find a profile. If there are many companies listed in that country you will be brought to a page of Alphabetical links. Click on the initial letter of the company you have in mind, and choose the company link you wish to view. The company's profile will be displayed along with the number of jobs that company has posted in JobsCity.NET. Click "view all" to see all the active job postings of the company.

Search Tip: Use specific keyword/s that will help distinguish resumes from the others.

"I get the "The query contained only ignore words" message"

In order to minimize clutter in the database, we have developed a list of frequenty used words we believe should not be searchable. A resume can contain about 500-800 words, but only about 20% of those words can mean something or can be searchable. For example, words like 'the', 'because', 'from' are definitely ignored because they are very common and can occur 20 times in one resume. These words cannot help distinguish resumes from the others. We advice that your queries be more specific like, 'oracle','html','tourism',etc.

"Who can view my resume?" / "How will employers find my resume?"

Under the Administration tools, the Privacy Options give you control how confidential or how viewable your resume you would like it to be. You are given instructions on this page how to adjust your preferences who to block or how to let your resume be viewable accordingly.

Help me with my Resume!

"What is a cover letter?"

COVER LETTER is the prospective employer's first look on you. It is a one-page document that goes with your resume that contains introduction of yourself, the job you are applying for and, or contact information for an interview to a certain employer. It is equally important that you give information of your professional background that highlights your skills, strengths and convictions that makes you stand out among the rest of other applicants.

"What are the blue and red bar graph beside my Edit Resume?"

These bars are referred to as the Status Bars. The Status Bars on your Home Page helps you complete your Online Resume. The fields that count towards a complete resume are the ones employers are most interested in. The blue bar marks these fields. So the more you work towards 100% the better your resume will look to those who can lead you to the perfect job. You don't have to rush just to have a fully completed resume. The most important aspect is to create a resume that accurately describes your talents and your experiences, even if it takes a little more time to gather the information.

When you have a 100% completed resume the "status" bars will disappear from your Home Page.

"What does the red font and blue stars on some asked data mean?"

There are some asked data in the site that you will see in red fonts and sometimes with a blue star beside it. The red font means the blank form is necessary to be filled up and submission would not be completed successfully unless information has been provided. If the red font means asked data is required, the blue star on the other hand means, asked data is recommended to be answered. These blue stars are indicators of the ratings of the bar graphs explained previously. ( See blue and bar graph info.)
