DESCRIPTION: The Sunoco, Inc. Tulsa Refinery opened in 1913 with a handful of pressure stills. In 1925, the original name Cosden and Co. was changed to Mid-Continent Petroleum Corp. The refinery continued to expand, producing ¿Diamond¿ and ¿DX¿ petroleum products to fill the demands of Mid-Continents extensive retail marketing network. In 1955, Mid-Continent merged with an exploration/production company, Sunray, to become Sunray Mid-Continent. The site became an important element in Sun¿s refining system in 1968 with the merger of Sunray DX and Sun Oil, and was reconfigured in 1992 to focus primarily on lubricant production. Today the refinery spreads over 800 acres and is the second largest refinery in Oklahoma. | |
