DESCRIPTION: Postdoctoral position available immediately. Project aims to determine the molecular mechanisms of anesthetic and alcohol action. Use novel general anesthetics which are photo-affinity probes to locate sites on acetylcholine receptors and other target proteins (PKC, etc). Locate sites on the open state of acetylcholine receptors and measure the kinetics of occupancy with custom-built time resolved photolabeling equipment. Protein chemistry skills essential (purification of membrane proteins, separation & analysis of proteolytic fragments). Aptitude with biophysical equipment and computer interfaces. Helpful but not essential experience: rapid kinetics, mass spectrometry, electron paramagnetic resonance. You will have an appointment Harvard Medical School and at Massachusetts General Hospital.
